Team Coaching Case Studies
They decided to climb out of their silos…
This Management Team worked in silos. They weren’t talking to one another; they didn’t know one another very well at all. Their distant relationships cost them, not only because they didn’t have the leverage that effective teamwork brings, but also because the emotional environment in which they worked wasn’t very healthy. They worked against their team members, rather than with each other. During the year we worked together, they climbed out of their silos—their business results improved because they communicated; they created a much healthier environment; they understood one another’s worlds; they began to work together as a high-performing team works together.
Relationship problems with this team impacted its business results…
This management team was experiencing conflict and other relationship predicaments that had real costs to the business. When we first met their scores on my High Performing Team Questionnaire were around 2 (on a 1 to 5 high scale). Team Coaching shifted their average to over 4. They’re now delighted at the way they work together. Trust is high; relationships are good; destructive conflict is a thing of the past. They now work together as a global role model for the rest of their organization.
The leader of this team wanted the team to “strengthen its muscles” so they’d come out on top in the more competitive business environment he suspected was around the corner…
It’s not that they had serious problems. They were producing pretty reasonable results but, as was expected, our diagnosis uncovered the fact that they were capable of doing more. The team leader needed to get more buy-in; and team members needed to take more initiative as well as proactively support the organization’s future. During its Team Coaching program each team member became conscious that they needed to become more accountable; they realized they needed to inject a lot more energy into the team if they were to create a healthier business. Our discussions had the entire team excited about the future that they could create. They actively instigated sound team practices to shore up and be ready for what was on the horizon.
